Bobby Bermea

Bobby Bermea is an African-Mexican-American Air Force brat who moved with his family all over the planet -from Turkey to South Dakota to the Azores to Virginia – and on. At Upper Heyford High School in the UK, when cast as a dancer in The Pajama Game, Bobby discovered the magic of applause. At the University of Texas in Austin, he discovered the magic of theatre. Bobby’s rich theatrical career has placed him alongside such theatrical luminaries as Ping Chong, Julie Harris, Marion McClinton and Michael Rohd. He has appeared in professional theatres spanning the continent from Honolulu, HI to New York, NY. Now at home in Portland, Bermea is the artistic director of BaseRoots Theatre and an artistic associate of the critically acclaimed Sojourn Theatre. Locally he has worked at Artists Repertory Theatre, El Teatro Milagro, Portland Center Stage, Cygnet Productions, Tygre’s Heart and right here at Portland Playhouse in Radio Golf. He received a Drammy for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his work in A Raisin in the Sun. Bobby believes that a spicy gumbo has all the necessary ingredients of life.
