Daniel Meeker, Designer

Back in the second grade in Buffalo, Mrs. Plager put her shy, introverted student Daniel behind the follow spot for Cinderella. He was hooked. By the 10th grade he had become his school’s one man theatre department –stage manager/designer/production manager/fund raiser- and then went on to earn his BFA in Theatrical Production Arts at Ithaca College and his MFA in Design at Yale. Dan’s impressive resume for set and lighting design crisscrosses the country from New York City to San Jose Rep to Cape Cod and now, luckily, we’ve got him in Portland. His Dad grew up here and he used to visit his grandparents here as a kid. He moved his young family to Portland in 2009 and thus far his work here has included designs for Portland Playhouse, Portland Center Stage (most recently the fabulous art studio in Red), CoHo and Profile Theatres. Brother/Sister plays parallels: Dan is a runner, mostly when he’s out of town and has more time. When Dan is anxious over looming deadlines he often dreams that he’s not done the reading for Drama 6 at Grad school and is going to flunk out. (In fact he aced Drama 6). Dan is a foodie. He said if he were making a southern meal he might add coconut into mashed sweet potatoes, topped with a pork chop and mango salad. Oh yeah.
