YOUR EVENT AT PORTLAND PLAYHOUSE
A COMMUNITY SPACE FOR MORE THAN A CENTURY
In the building that was once home to Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Portland Playhouse continues to bring community together in celebration and fellowship. The Playhouse provides rental use of the historic Church building as well as the new Community Studio to organizations and individuals on a sliding scale.
CHURCH BUILDING
The main Playhouse building is more than 110 years old. A two-year renovation and restoration process executed by SERA Architects and Colas Construction, completed in 2018, honors the original structure and intent of the building while also achieving necessary structural, safety and accessibility updates. The renovation provided modern office, dressing, lobby, and restroom facilities.
The main space of the theatre has been home to professional live theatre and dance performances, fundraising galas, commitment celebrations, community discussions, and weddings. A variety of seating plans and stage layouts are available.
COMMUNITY STUDIO
In 2018, SERA Architects and Colas Construction completed our Community Studio and Workshop adjacent to the Church building. The studio space is a light and airy room perfect for meetings up to 50* people, classes, parties, and dinners. With a full wall of windows that slide open to our patio space, the studio is a wonderful option for smaller gatherings and celebrations.
The Community Studio also houses two individual restrooms, one of which is ADA compliant.
