Show Description

Justice Begins with One Voice…

Before he became a Supreme Court Justice, Thurgood Marshall traveled the United States as a civil rights attorney, taking on cases that would reshape the nation.

Thurgood traces his remarkable 58-year career, from his early legal battles to his landmark victory in Brown v. Board of Education—the case that helped dismantle legalized school segregation and paved the way to the nation’s highest court.

Lester Purry returns in his acclaimed portrayal of Thurgood Marshall, reunited with director Lou Bellamy to bring this powerful story back to the stage at a moment when Marshall’s legacy feels as vital as ever.

Know Before You Go

DID YOU KNOW? The theatre where we’re performing Thurgood is in a High School named after Adrienne C. Nelson, the first Black woman appointed to the Oregon Supreme Court, and one of Oregon’s most celebrated legal trailblazers. Bringing a play about Thurgood Marshall’s life and legacy to this stage is a reminder that history isn’t distant; it lives in the people and communities that continue its work.
