Fall festival
Playhouse Company

Registration is open for the Fall Festival of Shakespeare Playhouse Company!

Register by October 16.

Calling all high school students: We need actors, artists, designers, video gurus, technical wizards, social media savants, and more! It’s time to reimagine what theatre looks like in a digital world and we need you to bring it alive.

The Fall Festival of Shakespeare is more than just a theatre festival. It’s a celebration of what it means to be alive, whether it’s 1600s Renaissance England or 2020 Portland, Oregon. But in a year of Zoom school and FaceTime hangouts with friends, how does theatre work? Is Shakespeare even relevant anymore? We’re looking for teens all over the area who are ready to face the challenge: to take something very old and make it newer than we could possibly imagine.

The Fall Festival of Shakespeare has been a non-competitive, region-wide collaboration between Portland Playhouse and local middle and high schools for twelve years. This year, however, we’re switching it up. In addition to working with schools, Portland Playhouse is looking for high school students all across the Portland metro area to participate in the first ever Playhouse Company.

The Playhouse Company will rehearse on Zoom after school, and together we will create a digital Shakespeare play that will be streamed in early December through the Portland Playhouse. Students are at the helm of the project creating the world of a Shakespeare play by becoming performers, designers, technicians, and more all under the guidance of Portland Playhouse Teaching Artists.

Are you up for it? Please sign-up to be a participant in the Playhouse Company at the link below by Friday, October 14th. We will begin together on Wednesday, October 14th from 4-6pm (students who register after this date will rotate into the class) and students will be asked to meet 1-3 times a week depending on how they choose to be involved. There is a participation fee of $50 but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

Schools who would like to participate in the Fall Festival of Shakespeare as a school group are encouraged to email Education Program Manager, Corinne Gaucher at corinne@portlandplayhouse.com for more info.
